What Makes you Laugh

two young girls laughing on a roller coaster ride

Lately, I’ve been asking myself a simple question:
What makes me laugh?

And today, as I looked at this photo of my daughter & Bonus Daughter—giggling, full of light, completely in the moment—I realized something…

This. This is what makes me laugh.
The kind of laugh that bubbles up from somewhere deep.
The kind that reminds me that even when life is hard—it’s still worth it.

Our life isn’t always easy.
We’ve had our fair share of ups and downs.
Sometimes it feels like it’s all appointments and IEP meetings, doctor visits, long nights, and impossible decisions.

But every now and then, we hit pause.

We hop on a ride.
We sit in the sun.
We just… laugh.

And that’s when I remember:
Laughter is more than a reaction—it’s medicine.
In fact, in many Indigenous teachings, laughter is sacred.
It’s a form of release, a shift in energy, a way to realign with joy.
It connects us to spirit, to breath, to the present.

Laughter is ceremony in its own quiet way.

You don’t need perfect conditions to laugh.
You just need a moment.
A silly face.
A squeaky rollercoaster.
A kid’s goofy joke that doesn’t even make sense—but somehow still cracks you up.

So today I’m not just asking you to think about what makes you laugh.
I’m asking you to chase it. Make space for it. Let it live in your body.
Because we need it. You need it. Our kids need it.

We can be healing, struggling, growing—and still laughing.

And honestly? That might be the bravest thing of all to keep laughing no matter how hard things get.

What made you laugh today?
Drop it in the comments.
And if you haven’t laughed yet—maybe this smile from my girls will help. 🧡
